About Me

My name is Signe Nordli Becker, and I grew up in a small Arctic town at the top of Norway, where reindeer roam the roads beneath the Nordic Light dancing across the sky.

I began my journey as a florist at the age of 15. The world of flowers was a beautiful realm where I truly felt at home.

After completing my high school studies, I earned a floristry diploma. In Bali, I delved into philosophy alongside 60 other Norwegian students. My time in Bali sparked my curiosity about life and people, making it challenging to remain in my small Arctic town. I moved to Oslo to study and worked in a flower shop in the evenings, but a few years later, I embarked on a new adventure to South America for three months. Suddenly, Oslo felt too small.

In 2000, I found employment in Paris with the company Sia as a merchandiser and designer. Since then, my life has been dedicated to travel and the creation of new designs. After four months in Paris, I met my husband Mathieu, and now we have two daughters, Nina Sofie and Maya Carolina. At Sia, we oversaw the entire collection process, from trend boards to product design, traveling across Asia and Europe to oversee prototypes, and designing the layout and ambiance of trade shows and showrooms.

In 2012, I transitioned to a role as a designer and stylist at Blanc D'Ivoire, a wonderful opportunity to further my knowledge of textiles and furniture.

After many years working for other companies, I felt the need for new challenges, which led me to establish my own business, YLVAYA, in early January 2017. During the creation of my business, I felt compelled to share my photos, life, and inspirations with others who share similar passions.

My inspiration stems from the nature of northern Norway, the culture of the Samis, and the art and antique markets of Paris. My passions lie in the beauty of nature, colors, the arts, and what life brings. You can see this reflected in my creations over the years.
